Accident on the Hogesluis bridge
I ride this bridge twice a day on my way to work and back home. Today It made me realize (again) that I should be carefull when riding it. The bridge can be very dangerous especially when it’s wet and when the bike liane is no longer there so you’ll have to cross the wet tram rails. In this case it was the rain which made it wet. But when it’s hot outside (i think above 20 degrees) yes that’s hot in NL. there are sprinklers which keep the bridge wet/cool otherwise the construction to open the bridge will lock itself.
There’s a temporarily bridge being build (see photo) so they can repair/rebuild this one.
The bridge was originally build in 1662 but since then it had several refurbishments. But now they’re gonna rebuild it totally they will keep the old parts because it’s a monument. More info over here: www.ivv.amsterdam.nl/projecten/renovatie_hogesluis/renova…
